Department of Finance Leads on Smart Transformation in Dubai

21-25 October initiative will mark a key milestone

In line with directives of the prudent leadership, Dubai Government’s Department of Finance (DOF) is leading a vast cross-government campaign to promote transformation to smart channels in delivering government services, aiming to complete the smart transformation in December 2021.

DOF has launched the 'Week without Service Centres' initiative, to mark a key milestone in the smart transformation journey, during the fourth week of October. This comes after a great success of the first round of the initiative last year, when it was organised for one day, after being approved by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai.

On 21st October, and for a week, all government service centres will direct their efforts to raise awareness among Dubai's residents about smart transformation and the way to complete government transactions easily, fast and safely. More than 1,000 services provided by 40 entities will only be available via smart channels, such mobile apps and websites.

Dubai will see a full transformation of government services to smart payment channels as part of the initiative, as Dubai Government seeks to make Dubai residents happier by providing personalised, smart, and high quality services. DOF plays a key role as a central entity leading the efforts to realise Dubai's vision and strategy aiming to implement full smart transformation of the Emirate.

DOF will keep leading the efforts towards the 2021 target, in response to the directions by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince, Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, who set the date 12th December 2021 as a deadline for the last paper-based government transaction.

The most popular transformed service categories will include fine and bill payments, as well as license renewals.

In its first year, the initiative managed to achieve a huge leap in government revenues via internet-based smart channels, amounting to 30% on the day of the initiative, 26th October 2017, with 31,000 smart government transactions completed for an amount of AED 55m, compared to AED 42.2m for transactions completed the preceding day.
